Broken
There were two young girls who were two years apart in age. The younger one was called Sophie, the older was called Amy. The pair met at a training programme. Instantly both of the girls clicked and they became the best of friends. The two of them both had some issues from the past but that’s what made them so close; through thick and thin they were there for each other.
Sophie used to spend most Fridays to Sundays in Amy’s house. Some weekends were a blur but the better ones are when they would drag the mattress into the living room and spent all night binge-watching tv shows and films, eating crap food, drinking cheap wine, from tears of laughter to tears of pain.
Amy was on and off with a guy. When the relationship was good they were happy, when it was bad it involved domestic abuse. Sophie often found she was caught up in between; dipping and diving from glass tumblers, trying to stop fights. She had done her best to be there for Amy but she became distant and began not being honest with Sophie. The friendship was rocky. Sophie found it difficult to help Amy. She didn’t want to upset her friend, she’d done her best to tell her friend how she felt about the toxic relationship.
Things just got worse, from drugs, police incidents, phone calls in the middle of the night. Sophie didn’t like hearing and seeing how Amy had changed.
Amy eventually ended the toxic relationship. Sophie was glad but Amy got quickly into another relationship that wasn’t any better than the last. Sophie would reach out to Amy and would hear nothing for days. Sophie at times needed Amy and Amy needed Sophie but as more time passed it was awkward.
Sophie received a text saying Amy was moving to a different part of the country. Sophie was heartbroken but wanted the best for her friend. She was aiming for a fresh start. Sophie was devastated when Amy was gone overnight.
Sophie didn’t get a chance to say goodbye.
